I love vintage/strange movie, and Freaks is both vintage and strange. Freaks is an horror movie directed by Tod Browning in 1932. The movie is setting in a circus (this makes it really exotic): Cleopatra ("normal"), a sensual trapeze artist, decide to marry Hans, a midget ("freak"), after learning of his large inheritance but, of course, she doesn't love him. So....
In the film, "freaks" are represented like good and honorable people: in fact, the real monsters are represented by "normal" people.
It's not the first movie about physical deformity I've seen (the first was The Elephant Man, a movie inspired by Joseph Merrick's life...This film is sad, but beautiful!). I didn't find Freaks scary and shocking at all: I think this movie is a cult indeed!
Amo i film vintage/strani, e Freaks è sia vintage, sia strano. Freaks è un film horror diretto da Tod Browning, uscito nel 1932. E' ambientato in un circo (e questo lo rende molto esotico ai miei occhi): Cleopatra ("normale"), una sensuale trapezista, decide di sposare Hans, un nano ("freak", termine che sta per "storpio"), dopo aver scoperto dell'ammontare del suo patrimonio ma, ovviamente, non lo ama. Così...
Nel film, i "freaks" sono rappresentati come persone leali e di buon cuore, mentre i veri mostri sono rappresentati dalle persone "normali".
Non è il primo film sulla deformità (o divesità) che guardo (il primo è stato The Elephant Man, un film ispirato dalla vita di Joseph Merrick....Triste, ma bellissimo allo stesso tempo). Non ho trovato Freaks spaventoso o particolarmente scioccante: penso sia uno dei film cult per eccellenza invece!
